Sushi and Roll Surrey

Formerly PSI Sushi and Roll, Sushi and Roll is a Korean operated sushi restaurant located in Whalley. I find them to be similar to Sushi Garden, and they have a lot in common. Normally, the restaurant is busiest on weekends. However, they do takeout as well as eating in, and there really is no wait. I also forgot to take an exterior photo for this review.

Anyways, my family started with the Agadashi Tofu. I haven't really had much of this  dish ever, so I can't say much about it. It cost $3.50, which was a special and would normally be $4. I'm not going to rate it because I haven't really tried it and stuff. It wasn't really crunchy, and didn't really have have much flavor. The inside was nice, soft and warm. However, the same sauce that came with the tempura came with the  tofu, and had some sweet and a little bit of saltyness. We would rate it a 3.5.

Ignore the awful pictures, please, but the salmon sashimi was the next item to come out of the kitchen.  It cost $10, which was a good price for 9 pieces of huge fish. Oddly enough, the salmon was really fresh and came on a bed of radish slice things. The wasabi was just the usual stuff, and the pickled ginger just came with the table. You could have as much as you wanted. The salmon sashimi was really good tasting and fresh. I liked it a lot. My family rated it a 4.

We got 2 normal rolls, in the Chopped Scallop Roll and the Salmon Roll. The Chopped Scallop Roll cost $4 and the Salmon Roll cost $2. The Salmon Roll really wasn't as good as the sashimi, and we rated it 2.5. The Chopped Scallop Roll was pretty good, and had some Chopped Scallop with mayo and masago (flying fish roll). The Scallop was really fresh, sweet and everyone liked it. We would rate the roll a 4 out of 5.

For our specialty roll, we got the Amazing Grace Roll, which cost $9. It was a sushi roll that had deep fried salmon and cucumber on the inside, with avocado on the top. The roll also came with some tempura flakes, which were nice and crunchy along with a bit of Sriracha on top with mayo and what appeared to be a sweet sauce. It was nice and crunchy, but the salmon was sorta weird. However, it went together well with the creamy avocado, and we rated it a 3.5.

Because we were not that full yet, we decided to get a House Roll for $5. They were huge and knife skills weren't evident. The end piece was about 3 times bigger than the other ones.  We were still hungry, so there were actually 6 pieces rather than the 3 in this picture. Everything was pretty good, except the tamago was a bit slimy, but the tuna was absolutely terrible. It wasn't fresh at all, probably just frozen. For $5, this roll wasn't worth it at all. We would rate the roll a 1.5 at most.

Bottom Line: A place for decent sushi in Surrey.
Tip: Don't try anything with Tuna.
Overall: 3.5/5

Update: They have another location in Port Moody

About Me

A B.C Kid that loves to eat and blog. All I can say. I might post about as often as I eat, so there might not like. However, I am a kid so there might be some inconsistency. This blog will be mostly about what I eat, where ever that may be. However, there will be the occasional post about other interesting topics.
